Detailed 5-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Marrakech → Aït Benhaddou → Dades Valley
Your journey begins early in Marrakech, heading toward the High Atlas Mountains. The road winds through scenic villages and terraced landscapes as you climb toward the breathtaking Tizi n’Tichka Pass, the highest major mountain pass in Morocco.
Along the way, you’ll stop at viewpoints to take in panoramic views of valleys and traditional Berber villages. The changing scenery—from red earth to rocky peaks—sets the tone for the adventure ahead.
By midday, you arrive at Aït Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This fortified village is one of Morocco’s most iconic landmarks, built from clay and straw. Walking through its narrow alleys feels like stepping back in time. The site has also been featured in many films and series.
After lunch, continue to Ouarzazate, where you can briefly visit the Taourirt Kasbah or film studios. Then travel through the Valley of Roses toward the Dades Valley.
Arrive in the Dades Valley in the evening, where you’ll stay overnight in a local guesthouse surrounded by dramatic rock formations.
Day 2: Dades Valley → Todra Gorge → Merzouga (Sahara Desert)
After breakfast, explore the unique rock formations of the Dades Valley, including the famous “Monkey Fingers” cliffs.
Then continue toward the spectacular Todra Gorge. These towering canyon walls rise up to 300 meters, creating a narrow passage carved by a river. It’s a popular spot for walking, photography, and even rock climbing.
After lunch, the landscape gradually shifts as you approach the desert. The greenery fades, replaced by arid plains and scattered oases.
By late afternoon, you reach Merzouga, the gateway to the Sahara. Here begins one of the most memorable experiences of the tour: a camel trek into the dunes of Erg Chebbi.
As the sun sets over the golden dunes, the desert transforms into a magical landscape of colors. You’ll arrive at a desert camp where you’ll enjoy traditional Moroccan food, music around the campfire, and a night under a star-filled sky.
Day 3: Explore the Sahara Desert (Merzouga Region)
Wake early to witness the sunrise over the dunes—an unforgettable moment as the light slowly reveals the vastness of the Sahara.
After breakfast, you have options depending on your interests. You can return to Merzouga by camel or 4×4.
The day is dedicated to exploring the desert region. You may visit nomadic families, learn about their way of life, and share tea with them. You can also explore nearby villages known for their unique musical traditions.
Another highlight is visiting a seasonal lake (if present) and fossil areas that reveal the region’s ancient past.
In the afternoon, relax at your hotel or take a walk along the dunes. Optional activities include sandboarding or quad biking.
Spend the night in a hotel near the dunes or return to the desert camp for a second magical evening.
Day 4: Merzouga → Draa Valley → Ouarzazate
After breakfast, begin the journey back toward the west. This time, you’ll take a different route through the scenic Draa Valley, known for its endless palm groves and ancient kasbahs.
The drive offers a deeper look into southern Morocco’s rural life. You’ll pass small villages, date palm oases, and traditional mud-brick architecture.
Stop for lunch along the way, then continue toward Ouarzazate. Depending on time, you can visit local sites or simply relax after the long journey.
Overnight stay in Ouarzazate.
Day 5: Ouarzazate → Marrakech
On the final day, return to Marrakech via the High Atlas Mountains.
You’ll retrace your path through the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, but the views feel entirely different in reverse. There will be stops along the way for photos, rest, and refreshments.
By late afternoon or evening, you arrive back in Marrakech, marking the end of your 5-day adventure.
